With the assistance of the Kharkiv City Council, a delegation of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Slovak Republic and leading universities of Slovakia, together with the international experts on refugees visited the municipal institutions in Kharkiv during their stay in Ukraine:
- social hotel;
- University of the Third Age;
- city center for reintegration of homeless people;
- transit accommodation facility for temporary residence of internally displaced persons.
The social hotel is the only municipal public institution in Ukraine, which has been receiving support of the German Federal Government under the Project “Development of social infrastructure alongside the increase of internally displaced persons”. This hotel can accept internally displaced persons and other people who have got into difficult living conditions and lost their housing.
Presently the transit accommodation facility for temporary residence of internally displaced persons in Kharkiv has accepted 364 migrants (200 adults and 164 children). The Slovak delegation has already initiated charitable assistance to support the facility, namely, by purchasing washing machines.
The Slovak experts visited Ukraine within the framework of the Project “The rights of refugees and internally displaced persons: the best European practices and ways of their implementation” coordinated by the non-governmental organization SME SPOLU, with financial support of Slovak agency for international development cooperation (SAMRS), Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine”, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
